چکیده

We are concerned with a model of ionic polymer-metal composite (IPMC) materials that consists of a coupled system of the Poisson and Nernst-Planck equations, discretized by means of the finite element method (FEM). We show that due to the transient character of the problem it is efficient to use adaptive algorithms that are capable of changing the mesh dynamically in time. We also show that due to large qualitative and quantitative differences between the two solution components, it is efficient to approximate them on different meshes using a novel adaptive multimesh hp-FEM. The study is accompanied with numerous computations and comparisons of the adaptive multimesh hp-FEMwith several other adaptive FEM algorithms. Adaptive Multi-Mesh hp-FEM for Linear Thermoelasticity

We present a new adaptive hp-FEM for linear thermoelasticity where each displacement component and the temperature are approximated on different meshes which are equipped with individual energy-based adaptivity mechanisms. We demonstrate that the multimesh hp-FEM can capture individual behavior of every solution component more efficiently than standard hp-FEM. AMS subject classification: 35B50,...

Monolithic discretization of linear thermoelasticity problems via adaptive multimesh hp-FEM

In linear thermoelasticity models, the temperature T and the displacement components u1, u2 exhibit large qualitative differences: While T typically is very smooth everywhere in the domain, the displacements u1, u2 have singular gradients (stresses) at re-entrant corners and edges. The mesh must be extremely fine in these areas so that stress intensity factors are resolved sufficiently. Among t...

Comparison of multimesh hp-FEM to interpolation and projection methods for spatial coupling of thermal and neutron diffusion calculations

Multiphysics solution challenges are legion within the field of nuclear reactor design and analysis. One major issue concerns the coupling between heat and neutron flow (neutronics) within the reactor assembly. These phenomena are usually very tightly interdependent, as large amounts of heat are quickly produced with an increase in fission events within the fuel, which raises the temperature th...

ADAPTIVE MULTIMESH hp-FEM FOR A COUPLED NEUTRONICS AND NONLINEAR HEAT CONDUCTION PROBLEM

We describe a modern approach for solving coupled multiphysics problems where the different physical components are solved on individual meshes. These meshes are adaptively refined independently from each other in order to obtain an accurate solution with the lowest number of degrees of freedom possible. We consider a time-dependent two-dimensional problem of nonlinear heat conduction coupled w...

A model for modified electrode with carbon nanotube composites using percolation theory in fractal space

We introduce a model for prediction the behavior of electrodes which modified withcarbon nanotubes in a polymer medium. These kinds of polymer composites aredeveloped in recent years, and experimental data for its percolation threshold isavailable. We construct a model based on percolation theory and fractal dimensionsand using experimental percolation threshold for calculating the moments of c...
